The latest fire erupted yesterday in the tiny northern town of weed near mt. shasta. it quickly destroyed or damaged 100 homes and burned a church to the ground. powerful winds fanned those flames forcing the evacuation of at least two schools and shut down the main freeway between california and oregon. farther south, dozens of homes were reduced to ashes near yosemite. i screamed, jesus, help me, because it was pretty scary. and the smoke was pretty bad. it was the heat. that fire has now forced about 900 people from their homes and it is now only about 35% contained. steep terrain, triple-digit threat of the heat. it s incredible what they are up against these firefighters. but 800 of them trying to put this out. the intensity because of these flames. they are sparking some of these spot fires almost a half mile ahead of the main blaze so, you aren t just dealing with the main concern on this thing but you re also dealing with the ....
