Board Works Towards Spring Launch of The Sistersville Ferry Boat By Randy Rutherford - Staff Writer | Feb 24, 2021 In an ongoing effort to secure a successful 2021 spring launch of the Sistersville Ferry Boat, the ferry board met via Zoom Thursday, February 11, 2021, in a special meeting. Those attending were members Gary Bowden, Janet Conn, Greg Goodfellow and Mary Ann Rutherford. Also attending was Ferry Boat Captain Bo Hause. The minutes of the January 24, 2021 meeting were reviewed and approved. Captain Bo Hause gave updates to the board concerning maintenance of the ferry and employment of deckhands. Repairs are needed on a rusted area of the forward floor section of the boat. After the rust removal is complete and before paint is applied, Captain Hause suggested adding cinders to the paint which would give the floor surface better foot traction. Gary Bowden suggested a painting contractor could be secured for the job, instead of Bo doing the work. There are some ....
Making A Difference – Terry Wiley By Randy Rutherford - Staff Writer | Jan 27, 2021 Terry Wiley, local businessman and entrepreneur, came to Sistersville on July 7, 2007 from the Cincinnati area. When Terry was a youngster he often traveled to Tyler County in the late 1950’s with his dad to hunt on an old family farm becoming familiar with the Middlebourne. He remembers as a kid it seemed to take forever to get to Tyler County as Interstate 77 wasn’t complete from Charleston to Parkersburg. “It was always a sigh of relief when we passed the Tyler County sign near Ben’s Run,” remembered Terry. The farm road they traveled was just dirt and mud which was nearly impassable when it rained. “It was an adventure driving from the Wick Road to the farm especially if there had been rain,” acknowledged Terry. ....
