Downton Abbey creator reveals Lady Mary s biggest scandal is based on a true story

In the first episode of the official 'Downton Abbey' rewatch podcast, creator Julian Fellowes revealed that he borrowed a true story from history as the inspiration behind Lady Mary's dalliance with Kemal Pamuk.

Downton Abbey Revisited: Season Two Episode Seven (Curiouser and Curiouser)

Primary Content Rachel - Longtime Downton Fan Christmas, a time that should be full of season’s tidings and joy, is instead rife with anguish and drama at Downton. This episode, of course, set the trend for Downton Abbey Christmas specials, which range from excellent lines and happy endings (this one!) to specials that ended with far more questions and tears (Season 3, especially).  However, this particular Christmas special is one of the few that takes place during the holiday season, which always makes it such a fun rewatch for me. Even if, like Mrs. Hughes, I’m not in the mood to wear a paper hat and celebrate right alongside the cast, I find learning about the various customs across the pond fascinating: plum pudding, Christmas crackers, celebrations both upstairs and down (and celebrations that combine them both, like the Servants’ Ball at the end of the episode).

Downton Abbey Revisited: Season Two Episode One (War Deals Out Strange Tasks)

We’ve made it to Season 2 and it starts off with a bang! Quite literally, as we’re thrown into Matthew’s experience at the Battle of the Somme. Rewatching the show, it feels like out of all of the seasons, Season 2 expanded the world of Downton Abbey and all of its respective changes and developments more than ever. Of course, it’s easy to believe that an international war would allow that, but it’s such a stark change from Matthew bidding Mary farewell at a Downton garden party and reappearing in the midst of battle. He says it himself even before our favorite title credits: “When I think of my life at Downton, it seems like another world.”

Ireland s been very kind to me, maybe because there is something about me that s not English - actor Iain Glen

Look, just to p s you off! Iain Glen picks up his laptop and points it out the window of his Durban hotel room. That s the Indian Ocean. There is something decidedly, and slightly unexpectedly, mischievous about this particular great Scot. One of the last times he was in South Africa, he passed a sign for Bloukrans Bridge, one of the highest bungee jumps in the world. Half an hour later, he was jumping off that bridge from a height of 216m. Glen is one of those tall, handsome actors whose name was often mentioned as a possible James Bond. At 59, he is unlikely to take over from Daniel Craig and although he might well have made a good Bond, he might never have had such a diverse career if he had been 007 in midlife.
