Man injured, horse killed in single vehicle accident near Cameron

A Galesburg man received an unknown injury following a crash Sunday morning in rural Warren County in which a horse was killed. According to a release from the Illinois State Police, a 2012 Black Chevrolet 2500 HD pickup truck being driven by 35-year-old Eric E. Hanson was northbound on 140th Street, to the south of Cameron. Police say Hanson was driving at a high rate of speed and struck a horse that was standing on the roadway at around 8:38. Reports say that the horse was killed by the impact. State Police say Hanson was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries. The extent of the damage to the vehicle was not released. He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The release does not indicate where the horse came from or who it belonged to.

Galesburg man suffers life-threatening injuries after single-vehicle accident

A 43-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle accident between Monmouth and Galesburg. According to the Illinois State Police, Ryan Byrd of Galesburg was flown to an area hospital following a single-vehicle crash along US Highway 34 in Warren County at just around 1:06 Sunday morning. A preliminary investigation indicates that Byrd was driving his 2008 Nissan Truck east along the highway when he ran off the road to the right, struck the south ditch embankment, and overturned, ejecting him. The crash remains under investigation but police have indicated that alcohol was involved. Byrd has been cited for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, Driving While License Revoked, and several other traffic violations.

Two dead in single-vehicle accident on Interstate 74 near Woodhull

Two out-of-state people have died in a single-vehicle accident about six miles south of Woodhull, along Interstate 74 on Monday. According to the Illinois State Police, a 2004 Jeep Liberty was eastbound on 74 at around mile marker 38 at around 3:30 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drove into the median, lost control, and overturned. Three individuals were in the vehicle. The driver, a 47-year-old female from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers were transported to local hospitals. A 58-year-old male from Rolla, Missouri, was flown from the scene and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The second passenger, a male of unknown age from Rolla, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to ISP. The westbound lanes of Interstate 74 were closed for the traffic crash investigation and scene cleanup, reopening at 7:15. ISPs Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.
