They urged the ministry to prohibit schools from condemning the expressed gender of students and obstructing them from taking steps towards transitioning their gender, among others. The petition comes on the back of a transgender student’s claim that the ministry had interfered with her getting hormonal therapy, which has sparked a spirited debate on the discrimination that students who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) are facing in schools.
