filibuster. both joe manchin and senator sinema have said pretty plainly they will not abolish the filibuster, but they haven t taken off the table openness to rules reforms that would be good for the senate and that could enable us to accomplish our goal. and that s what we re working on right now. eugene, help us understand how president biden factors into that push to reform the filibuster. yeah. i mean that is key to this whole thing, right? without any kind of carveout for voting rights in the filibuster, voting rights legislation doesn t pass. republicans are not signing onboard for federal voting rights legislation, any kind of legislation that protects voting rights. that much has been clear for a very long time. so we know the president s going to do on tuesday is kind of come out in support of even more than he has, be more full-throated and unequivocal about supporting a carveout for voting rights in the filibuster. we ve seen kind of a drastic change in how he s talked
i wouldn t want to delude anybody into thinking that this is easy. well, senators manchin and sinema have faced a lot of pressure from outside forces and their own colleagues, but will any of this make a difference, ana? it s hard to tell right now. you know, senator sinema met with several of her colleagues on the senate rules committee last night, and to what chuck schumer was just saying, they didn t come out in a different place than where she had been, so she hasn t been convinced yet. they continue to have those conversations. it s unclear to me where you re going to see any movement by them. and while we often talking about, you know, joe manchin and kyrsten sinema as the tip of the spear on this issue, there are several other democratic senators who are very wary of changing the filibuster rules. and so they may be the most loud about it, but i do think this idea that there could be a carveout around voting rights is a hurdle that democrats don t seem to be overcome at this

senators filibustered and anti-election bill that had passed in the house. with senator manchin, and senator sinema have supported blocking those bills to? i am just applying their logic here. and showing that it is not logical at all. to them, the filibuster is sacred. except for when it does not. in 2010, senator sinema supported the idea of using reconciliation to get around the filibuster and pass health care reform. just last month, they both supported an exception to the filibuster. to raise the debt ceiling. but, they draw the line at protecting the rights of millions of voters. history will not remember them kindly. so no matter what happens tomorrow, we must keep the pressure on. and say no more empty words. do not tell us what you believe in, show us, with your votes. history will be watching what
