ANKARA (Reuters) - A Palau-flagged freight ship has sunk off the coast of Turkey’s Black Sea province of Bartin, killing two crew members, the coast guard said on Sunday, adding that search and rescue operations for more crew members were continuing.
Bartin Governor Sinan Guner had initially said the ship, the ARVIN, was a Russian dry freight vessel that sank off the coast of the Inkumu region in poor weather, but later corrected that.
“The ARVIN ship attempted to take refuge at the Bartin port due to poor weather conditions as it carried cargo from Georgia to Bulgaria,” Guner was quoted as saying by state-owned Anadolu news agency. ....

At Least Two Dead After Russian Freighter Sinks In The Black Sea

Two bodies have been found after a Russian freighter sunk in the Black Sea off the Turkish coast early on Sunday, reported the Turkish news agency Anadolu, citing regional Governor Sinan Guner.
Five survivors have also been rescued. The ship had a crew of 13, all Russians, though some Turkish media have reported the proper number is 15.
Rescue efforts were made harder by storms and strong waves, but rescuers are still seeking survivors. The Turkish navy has also contributed a ship to the effort, tweeted the Defence Ministry.
The cause of the accident remains unclear.
