Plans to convert a Pwllheli home into two flats to help prevent homelessness have been approved despite local opposition.

According to the documents accompanying the application by Gwynedd Council’s housing department, the one and two bedroom flats would be used to meet the growing local need for such properties.
“The creation of two living units here would enable us to use them to accommodate people in such circumstances, individuals who are usually near the top of the housing register, at an affordable social rent, until a suitable house becomes available,” noted the report. ....

Decision on Gwynedd 'Beverly Hills' house extension delayed for a month

A decision on plans to extend a house dubbed “more suited for Beverly Hills than Mynydd Nefyn” has been kicked into the long grass for now.
Meeting on Monday, members of Gwynedd Council’s Planning Committee was asked to approve the refurbishment and extension of Tan-y-Mynydd on Mynydd Nefyn.
This follows the refusal of earlier proposals for the same property last September, with the committee going against the advice of officers after citing the visual impact and claiming that approval would “open the floodgates” for similar developments. ....

Tributes paid to former Bangor councillor

Tributes have been paid to a former Bangor councillor following his sudden death over the weekend.
Dewi Llewelyn was a member of Gwynedd Council, representing the Deiniol ward between 2004 and 2012, having also sat on Bangor City Council for several years.
But after it was announced that he passed away over the weekend, Thursday’s full meeting saw Gwynedd Council’s new Council chairman lead the tributes to the former Plaid Cymru politician.
Cllr Simon Glyn, chairing his first meeting in the role, said: “It was with sadness that we learned of the death of former councillor, Dewi Llewelyn. ....

Plans for homes at site of former Gwynedd church refused

Plans to build six new homes on the site of a Gwynedd catholic church have been unanimously refused by planners.
In 2019, Gwynedd Council approved the demolition of the Resurrection of Our Saviour church in Morfa Nefyn after it fell victim to a sweeping closure programme announced by the Bishop of Wrexham in 2016.
The church was built in 1967-68 in light of the increasing number of summer visitors to the area, but was one of 22 Catholic churches closed across north Wales.
However, meeting on Monday, members of Gwynedd Council’s planning committee unanimously refused an application by Commercial Development Projects Ltd to build six open market homes on the site after being informed that the plans would contravene existing policy. ....
