Letter: Settle planning proposals ANYBODY who lives in Settle will be aware of the unsightly toilet block at the Kirkgate entrance to Ashfield Car Park. Something has to be done with this and whilst the obvious thing is to reinstate the toilet blocks , it is unlikely to happen given the council’s financial status. My concern is Craven District Council is looking to redevelop the site which potentially could be a good thing. However what we are concerned about is the possible size of this project and the building materials used. It’s inevitably going to be built to a price and any opportunity to cheapen the cost will be taken. Kirkgate area of Settle is part of the conservation zone and really hasn’t changed for a century or more and consists of stone mullion windowed buildings with slate or stone roof tiles.
