Region 14 Board Places Olzacki on Paid Leave

BETHLEHEM-WOODBURY — The Region 14 Board of Education voted Thursday, February 18, to place School Superintendent Dr. Joseph Olzacki on paid administrative leave, pending results of a job performance investigation. The action followed the board’s decision on Wednesday, February 3, to hire an independent investigator to review the job performance of the superintendent regarding the Covid-19 vaccination program. The latest decision will expand that investigation to include other areas. Chairman George Bauer posted information on the school district website on Friday, February 19, writing, “With many recent issues and concerns throughout the district, the board wants to move forward in improving the climate and increase the focus on educating our students. To do this, the board cannot rely on hearsay and will continue to gather facts to address concerns. At the special meeting of the Region 14 Board of Education on February 18, two actions were taken.

Principals Give Student Updates to School Board

OXFORD — Oxford school principals gave updates on student achievement, teaching and learning and family engagement during a Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, December 8, and highlighted certain struggles they have encountered with remote learning. Principals said student achievement has decreased, noting students are not meeting the usual “at goal” marks. Oxford High School Principal Dorothy Potter said OHS teachers have noticed several students are struggling with remote learning. She said the staff is planning to try an in-person program for struggling students. “We need to provide more support for struggling students who are failing two or more classes,” said Ms. Potter. “We are planning to bring those kids back to school even if the high school is remote.”
