British-Nigerian artist Karimah Ashadu, who lives and works in Hamburg and Lagos, is one of the breakout stars of the 60th Venice Biennale. She received the Silver Lion award given to a promising young participant for her single-channel video Machine Boys (2024), which looks at the lives of okada, or motorcycle taxi drivers in Lagos.
No cultural institution is currently more intensively engaged in helping refugees than the German theatre scene. Yet it′s still rare to find refugees taking the initiative as independent players. The Silent University aims to change all that. By Dorothea Marcus

Artists Making Music is the second in an ongoing series of essay documentaries initiated by the artist in 2020, which shares artists making artworks in specific conditions, formats, and times. Öğüt’s first video in the series,
Artworks Made at Home, portrays a lineage of artists making art in domestic settings. Öğüt’s essay documentary series bring together several aspects of his practice, such as collaboration (

The Silent University, 2021–ongoing), and inspiring others to take their own actions (
Bakunin s Barricade, 2015–20).
