a u.s. navy destroyer is damaged heading into the persian gulf. not from combat, but essentially a traffic accident in the strait of hormuz. the uss porter collided with a japanese-owned oil tanker. police shot and killed a man near new york s times square. the man allegedly threatened officers saturday with a knife. it s unclear whether the suspect injured any pedestrians. police pepper sprayed t man six times, and he still refused to drop the knife, and it was a big knife. the man was taken to a hospital where he later died. evangelist billy graham is hospitalized. the 93-year-old has a pulmonary infection believed to be bronchitis. his spokesman says graham is being treated with antibiotics and is improving. the hospital in asheville, north carolina, says graham is in stable condition but will spend tonight in the hospital. team usa won the men s basketball gold medal. it was a close game. the american team led spain by one point after the third quarter. kevin ....

the california fire that s about to burn a hole in millions of wallets. this was the scene monday at chevron s richmond, california oil refinery. a huge toxic blaze partially shutting down production at one of the region s biggest gas suppliers. not a good time for that to happen, it s expected to send the pump prices skyrocketing on the west coast and beyond. ed levandera is live in dallas, texas. it s not just about gas prices, it s about people and health concerns in that area, as well, right? reporter: there s no question, people there who have been up close with the refinery fire that started on monday, and is still not quite back up to full production. have been dealing with the effects of that. but if you re like me, you ve noticed over the last few weeks already, as you pull into the gas station, hey, something is not quite right. but that s because the national average of gasoline prices has risen to $3.63 a gallon, up almost 30 cents in the last five weeks. ....

landings in history. but for now, all eyes on this. the very first video of the curiosity landing, released today. the grainy video was shot onboard moments before touching down. john zarrella and chad myers join me now for more. so, john, let s start with you. you have been following the story very closely and are live at nasa s jetropulsion laboratory in california. tell us about this new veo and what exactly are we seeing? reporter: well, in fact, zoraida, what we re seeing in this video are images taking from the descent camera, made by space industries down in san diego. and the video shows the curiosity rover as it is descending down through the atmosphere to the touchdown on mars. it was 297 images all put together into one continuous short video. and then there was the haz cam image. they finally did get a higher resolution picture which shows mt. sharp in the distance. and that mt. sharp is, of course, critical what they are hoping to do is get over to mt. sh ....
