According to the Centers for Disease control, more than 4 million Americans aged 40 years and older suffer from uncorrectable vision impairment, and 1 million of those are blind. This number is predicted to more than double by 2050 to nearly 9 million due to the increasing epidemics of diabetes and other chronic diseases and our rapidly aging U.S. population.
In Massachusetts, state sponsored services and supports are only available for those considered “legally” blind, leaving many people with vision impairment without access to services. ....

The only thing worse than COVID-19 is trying to get a shot to prevent it.
Like many others, I struggled to make such an appointment this week for an older luddite that I live with. He was baffled by the system, and it was easy to see why. It may be the single least user-friendly site I have ever seen, and I used to work in government.
Getting useful information on the Cape is difficult. The Cape Cod COVID-19 Task Force came up with an innovative idea, to directly call the home phone of about 50,000 Cape residents over age 65 to provide information, sort of like updates from the police department. While many might dismiss it as a robocall and refuse to answer, it is at least an effort to reach out to those who don’t live online and may well provide them with information that they have not already heard or read. They also hosted a call-in session. ....
