Historians and the Sunni Muslim Waqf Committee which manages the Sidi Sayyed mosque, have raised concerns about the erosion of the unique stone works due to pollution.
Built in 1573, it was the "last great building in the Gujarati style before the Mughal conquest" (‘Ahmadabad’, Marg Publication) and is known for its 'jaali', the intricate stone lattice work on its windows.
