GEORGE NEWS - The Nelson Mandela University George Campus will be hosting an online welcome event this evening, Friday 5 March, for all its first-year students. 
Both the George and Gqeherha (Port Elizabeth) campuses have a series of virtual welcomes for new students and their families this week, ending tomorrow, Saturday 6 March.
George Campus spokesperson Milisa Piko says the switch from the traditional on-campus event to online sessions for as many as 6 000 first-year students on both its campuses is in keeping with the Covid-19 ....

Nelson Mandela University (NMU) is preparing to welcome all its students, including first years, for the 2021 academic year starting in March.
After the Covid-19 pandemic forced the temporary closure of education institutions in 2020, the academic year was extended to the end of February.
The shift to online learning, together with safety protocols and limited on-site “mask-to-mask” work, will continue in 2021 when classes start on March 15.
NMU spokesperson Zandile Mbabela said in a statement on Wednesday that some programmes would be fully online in 2021, while others would involve a mixture of content teaching online and mask-to mask “experiential learning” on campus or in the workplac ....

It is full steam ahead for SA’s 10th medical school, located at Nelson Mandela University’s Missionvale Campus in Port Elizabeth.
This was announced on Monday by NMU vice-chancellor Prof Sibongile Muthwa and follows the approval and registration by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) for the university to offer the MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) qualification. ....

The Nelson Mandela University has announced that it will establish the 10th medical school in the country.
The medical school will be located at its Missionvale Campus in Port Elizabeth. The campus is in proximity to Dora Nginza Hospital and a number of clinics.
The institution has received a go-ahead from the SA Qualifications Authority (SAQA) to offer the MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) qualification.
“It gives me the greatest pleasure to announce that Nelson Mandela University has received the final approval to offer the MBChB in the country’s 10th medical school and the Eastern Cape’s second, with effect from the 2021 academic year,” said vice-chancellor Prof Sibongile Muthwa. ....
