hello, everyone. i m erin burnett. outfront tonight, the republican candidates for president have just finished debating in iowa. this is important, because it s the last day before the iowa caucuses, just 19 days away. and while newt gingrich remains the national front-runner, he has been losing steam. take a look at the latest poll. this is a gallup poll that shows in the beginning of december, just ten days ago, 37% of republican voters say they will pick newt. 22% picked mitt romney. but here s how it looks now. newt s number has dropped to 29%. romney, as no doubt he s incredibly frustrated by, remains the same. but it doesn t go down, remains around the same, 24%. as we ve seen in this race, anything can happen in the next few weeks. the swings have been dramatic and certainly didn t require 19 days. so how did the candidates do at the debate tonight? game changers? joining us now, john avalon, contributor. david frum, former speechwriter for george w. bush, and r ....

and stock markets react as well. european stocks closing down on grave concerns on what s happening on the euro zone and whether italy will be able to pay its bills. and stresses that we re seeing in the italian bond market. when you talk about stocks, stocks are much smaller than the overall bond market. the bond market is where governments, companies go to borrow money to keep going. the cost to borrow for governments, governments in trouble, has been rising. you have that above 7% now. 7.3% for italy to borrow money. that s even with the european central bank buying italian bonds and with europe doing things to stabilize things. 7% is seen as a dangerous signal, fredricka. when you ve seen rates climb that high before, it s triggered a bailout. how can you bail out italy? it s the third largest bond market and economy in europe. look at greece, for example, 27% the interest rates on greece bonds. greece can barely can t borrow money, quite frankly, anymore, because ....

acknowledge he was twice accused of inappropriate behavior as head of the international restaurant association. i was accused of sexual harassment, falsely accused i might add. i was falsely accused of sexual harassment, and when the charges were brought, as the leader of the organization, i recused myself and allowed my general counsel and my human resource officer to deal with the situation. and it was concluded after a thorough investigation that it had no basis. the restaurant association tonight says it won t and can t comment on personnel issues from 15 years ago. cain in his trademark outspoken style asserts in this lunchtime conversation he had no idea about the organization paid two women to settle their complaints. i hope it wasn t for much because i didn t do anything. but the fact of the matter is, i m not aware of a settlement that came out of that accusation. what you heard there is very, very important. right there you heard mr. cain say he was no ....
