BAREILLY: Police in UP’s Bareilly on Monday registered an FIR against four of its own men, including a circle officer (CO) and an station house officer (SHO), for attempt to murder six months after they allegedly opened fire at a sub-inspector (SI) during a birthday party and tried to pass it off as an episode of “celebratory firing that went wrong”.
The incident took place in August last year at a hotel near Bareilly’s Cantonment police station. The CO and the SHO have since then been transferred to other police stations in the city. The FIR was filed about two months after the court of chief judicial magistrate directed local police to book the accused. SI Sanjay Singh had alleged that he was “fed up” with corruption at the police station and wanted to resign. He had also alleged in his complaint that he was disturbed with the “atrocities” of the then SHO Dharmendra Singh and the then CO Ashok Yadav.
