SALT LAKE CITY In November, the Downtown Dollars program was established to help struggling restaurants and retailers in Salt Lake City s commercial core. Utahns can purchase electronic gift cards and get a certain amount of bonus bucks tacked on to spend at dozens of downtown businesses.
With the end of the year approaching, the Downtown Alliance is now upping the ante and sweetening the bonus bucks deal to sell more Downtown Dollars and help more downtown businesses.
Previously, Utahns who purchased Downtown Dollars could get 10 bonus bucks for a $50 gift card purchase, or 25 bonus bucks for a $75 purchase. Now, the Downtown Alliance is offering $50 in bonus cash for every $100 spent on Downtown Dollars through the end of the year, effectively discounting purchases by one-third.

In a time when most new live performances aren t possible, many organizations are offering audiences a chance to re-acquaint themselves with previous productions, or experience them for the first time, via streaming recordings. This month, Salt Lake Acting Co. launches its now SLAC Digital platform with a presentation of its 2016 production of
Climbing With Tigers.
The show adapts the picture book by writer Dallas Graham and 9-year-old Nathan Glad, which presents an allegory for Nathan s own condition Osteogenesis imperfecta, or brittle bones disease through a bird named Blue (Austin Archer, pictured) who longs to fly but fears that his own brittle bones won t withstand it. And so with the help of a magical narrator (Robert Scott Smith), Blue finds a Jolly Troop of birds and sets off on an adventure to find a legendary tiger, whose tail might have magical healing powers.
