Amid protests against a proposed oil refinery in Maharashtra s Ratnagiri district, state industries minister Uday Samant on Tuesday said the current site for the mega project was suggested by then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, while the Opposition urged the government to stop soil survey work and be sensitive in handling the situation arising out of the agitation.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on Monday denied having any connection with the petition filed by Mumbai based lawyer in the Supreme Court seeking the transfer of all movable and immovable property belonging to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) to the Shinde faction.
On the issue related to the merging of 23 villages and the then demerging of two villages, Patil said that he was of the opinion that "small-sized civic bodies are required for efficient delivery of the civic services, but any decision taken by the state government is taken jointly".
