New Delhi: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday directed a district and sessions judge posted in Faridabad to conduct an enquiry into the allegations that labour rights activist Shiv Kumar was detained illegally and tortured in the custody of Haryana police.
Bar & Bench, Justice Avneesh Jhingan passed the orders after examining four medico-legal reports (MLRs) that were produced in court along with the status report dated February 27. ....

New Delhi: Labour activist Nodeep Kaur, who was recently released on bail, said that state repression was on the rise, saying anyone who raises their voice is “called names and labelled” and will be booked under stringent laws.
She was speaking at a press conference organised on Monday by 37 groups to discuss “repression by state forces” and to demand the release of Shiv Kumar, president of Mazdoor Adhikar Sangathan and other âpolitical prisoners”, including those arrested post the riots in Delhi. ....
