James (Jim) Cox, 70, of Fort Dodge, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Services will be on Saturday March 13 at 11:00 AM at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. A time of gathering for family and friends will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Webster City, Iowa.
James Edgar Cox, the son of Earnest and Elnora (Michael) Cox, was born September 14, 1950, in Centerville, Iowa. After graduating from high school in 1968, Jim served in the United States Army in the 101st Air Borne Division in Vietnam. ....

When we left the USS
Sway (AM-120) in our last installment, she had just departed Algeria en route to the United States. The
Sway had been in the European/North African theater of operations since 1943. She had participated in operations Shingle and Dragoon, had come under fire in Italy and Southern France, and been involved in a friendly-fire incident with General Mark Clark. Now she was en route to the United States for a major overhaul and refit before reporting to the Pacific Fleet for operations against Japan. My grandfather had joined the ship in May 1944, and as of 1 January 1945 he had risen to the rank of quartermaster third class. Dartmouth's Favorite Used Bookstore Lives On at Raynham Location


If you are a 40-ish lifelong resident of the SouthCoast with a love for reading, there is a chance your love started at Annie’s Book Stop.
Back in the early ’80s, Shirley and Dave Peterson franchised out the popular new and used bookstore Annie’s and opened a location in the JB Byrider plaza off Route 6 in Dartmouth. There were shelves upon shelves of new and used books and many of my peers frequented the store to buy the cult-classic
Babysitters Club books and Super Specials. Back then, reading the newest book was the cool thing to do; a mark of being hip and with it. Paperback books were 25 cents and you got a free Annie’s bookmark to go with it. ....
