Nova Scotia announces COVID-19 reopening plan, first phase scheduled to begin June 2

Nova Scotia health officials announced the province s COVID-19 reopening plan on Friday, which involves a five-phase process.
“Our phased plan will allow us to safely enjoy summer with public health measures in place while we work at getting most of our population fully vaccinated,” said Premier Iain Rankin. “Then we should be able to further ease restrictions in the fall and ease in to a new normal of living with COVID-19.”
The province says each of the phases, which are expected to last between two to four weeks long, depends on COVID-19 activity in the province, public health and testing capacity, hospitalizations and vaccination rates. ....

Two days into the HRM lockdown, Nova Scotia s COVID-19 numbers are still rising.
On the second day of the Halifax lockdown cases keep climbing, as the province is reporting 52 new COVID-19 infections today. That s the second-highest daily total of Nova Scotia s pandemic the highest being 55 cases on April 23, 2020 in the heart of the first wave.
Just one patient has recovered since yesterday s report, so Nova Scotia s current caseload is up to 201 active cases. That s the most in a long time, but still less than half the highest-ever caseload of 466 active cases, marking the April 19, 2020 first-wave peak. ....

Two New Cases of COVID-19 Connected to Schools, St. Joseph’s-Alexander McKay Update

Nova Scotia is reporting two additional cases of COVID-19, identified today, April 23, connected to Cobequid Educational Centre in Truro, Northern Zone, and Shipyard Elementary in Sydney, Eastern Zone. Neither person was in school today.
The schools will remain closed to students until Thursday, April 29. A deep cleaning will take place and students will learn from home during the closure. Families will receive an update before students return to school.
In addition, due to the number of close contacts connected to previously identified cases, and out of an abundance of caution, St. Joseph’s-Alexander McKay Elementary in Halifax will remain closed to students until May 10. Families will receive more information from the school today. ....
