Oquawka, Ill.- The Henderson County Sheriff's Office has announced it is stepping up enforcement for the Memorial Day "Click It or Ticket" campaign, which will run from May 19th through the 30th. According to a news release, the campaign leverages education and enforcement to save lives. "Seat belts have proven to be life-saving in the event of a crash," said Sheriff Matthew Link "Unfortunately, many still don't buckle up. Worse yet, not wearing a seat belt is a habit that can be passed on to younger generations who follow the example set by their elders." Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer and is a very popular travel weekend. Wearing a seatbelt can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 45%. Illinois currently has a 93% seat belt use compliance rate, but unbelted occupants still account for over half of those killed in motor vehicle accidents. Around 8:00 pm on Wednesday, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office received a call from Iowa Authorities that an Officer was following a pickup across the Great River Bridge that was refusing to stop. Sheriff's Deputies were able to intercept the vehicle and follow it. The vehicle attempted to elude Deputies by traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle eventually stopped on US34 in Warren County at 40th Street. Sheriff Matthew Link releases that 37-year-old Justin Hahn of Burlington was arrested for Aggravated Fleeing or Eluding an Officer - Class 4 Felony, Speeding 40 Plus Miles An Hour Over The Limit, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle, Driving While License Revoked, and Improper Use of Registration. Hahn's vehicle was seized and he is currently being held in the Henderson County Jail awaiting a bond hearing. ....
