Elliott, Sara and family THE first of July marked 14 years of flying and saving lives for the charity Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. Specialist doctors, paramedics and pilots working on the front line have responded to over 700 people in desperate need of critical care this year alone. And in April this year, the charity attended its 10,000th patient by air, when a young male who was involved in a road traffic collision near Ringwood, Hampshire, needed pre-hospital treatment. It costs the Charity, which receives no government funding, an average of £2,882 every time it is called out. Leading the charge of appreciation is Elliott and his family from Hampshire. In June last year, HIOWAA were called to provide emergency critical care to Elliott when he collapsed on his static exercise bike at home. ....

The milestone mission took place on Monday afternoon, when Dr Fran Dolman, Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) specialist paramedic Mike Funge, HEMS paramedic Nigel Harley, and Capt Dave Nicholls were called to Ringwood in Hampshire, to provide critical care to a young male following a road traffic collision. Following treatment at the scene, the patient was conveyed to University Hospital Southampton by colleagues at South Central Ambulance Service. Acting chief executive, Sherie Williams Ellen, said: 10,000 missions by air is an incredible landmark, and being a lifeline to so many people is something we take great pride in. ....
