Commissioners: Deputy McCance will take over EMA when Beckner retires

Guernsey County commissioners hosted a meeting this week with officials from the county s Emergency Management Agency regarding the transition process for when Director Gerry Beckner retires at the end of the month.
Attending on behalf of the EMA were Beckner and Deputy Director Amy McCance. Commissioners have announced plans to have McCance assume control of the agency on June 1.
We wanted to take a look at the details for the transition to Amy and determine if there are any issues that need our attention or that we need to address, said Commissioner Dave Wilson. ....

Despite COVID-related delays, city wraps up bridge project by year's end


The Mount Vernon Avenue bridge, which spans the Kokosing River, was reduced to one lane from August 2019 to December 2020 as construction crews replaced it. The finished product is wider than the original (three lanes instead of two) and it includes multi-use trails on both sides, connecting the Kokosing Gap Trail to Mount Vernon Nazarene University s campus and downtown Mount Vernon, respectively. The project cost $6.8 million and was funded largely through state grants. ....
