the flow of aid. this comes as new images appear to show dozens of palestinian men, stripped to their underwear, with their hands tied behind their back, being held by israel defence forces. it s not clear if they have surrendered or if they have been taken by the military. israel has not said who the men are, but it has confirmed that israeli forces are making arrests in gaza. from jerusalem, here s our international editor, jeremy bowen. a warning you may find some of the images upsetting. video emerged this afternoon of palestinian men taken for interrogation. bbc staff recognised the town in northern gaza as beit lahia and we have geolocated the video there, too. palestinian diplomats said these were savage images evoking humanity s darkest times. the israeli army said only that suspects were being interrogated. posts on social media said the men had been sheltering with their families at a un school and that others were killed during the israeli raid. in this photo ....

the next three days of the truce. thousands of displaced palestinians have used the pause in fighting to go back to their homes despite israeli warnings that the war is far from over. let s get this update from our middle east correspondent, tom bateman. let s show you some live pictures from gaza. this is kind newness, and this is the gaza skyline. the pause in fighting seems to be holding. this is exactly 2a hours now since that truce began, and as you can see it is looking calm, which bodes well for the release of further hostages promised later on today. we are also hearing, a lot of aid getting in yesterday and hopefully more to come as part of this deal, there is more flow of aid than has been happening in recent days so hopefully that will continue on later today. let s get this update from our middle east correspondent, tom bateman. well, it was in a hospital close to tel aviv that eight of the israeli hostages were taken. they were the four children released ....

at least 50 hostages women and children will be released over four days, during which a pause in the fighting will be held. the release of every additional ten hostages will result in one additional day in the pause . the deal was approved by israel s cabinet after a lengthy meeting that ran into the early hours. ahead of the meeting, prime minister benjamin netanyahu said the war effort would continue even if a hostage agreement was struck. the deal has been welcomed by president biden, who says it should bring home additional american hostages. in its own statement, hamas, which is considered a terrorist group by many western governments, says the 50 hostages will be released in exchange for 150 palestinian women and children being held in israeli jails. in the past few minutes, qatar, which helped broker the deal, has said the starting time of the pause will be anounced within 2a hours. our senior international correspondent orla guerin has more on the hostage ....
