The sellout by the UCU at the University of Sheffield International College came at the same time as the union at the national level suspended the remaining seven days of national strike action scheduled for February over pay, working conditions and pensions.
World Socialist Web Site reporters spoke to university staff at the halfway point of their scheduled 18 days of strike action this February-March.
At every stage in the dispute the UCU leadership has worked to minimise and suspend any strike action after claiming its campaign has secured concessions when they are the only side involved in a climbdown.
The demobilisation by the University and College Union of the fight by college staff and its disaggregated nature is brought into sharper relief as educators in all four parts of the system primary, secondary, further, and higher education have been on strike in the city.
