A shelter from adversity. all our welcome here. for any black woman and her white husband, it would be impossible not to talk about these issues. but shayna is a lawyer, and bill isn t just any white man. he s a cop. working in one of the most segregated cities in america. a triple shooting in northeast baltimore. baltimore is on track for one of the city s deadliest years. looking at the faces of just some of those killed. bill and shayna s eight years of marriage have been punctuated by news of killings of black men and boys at the hands of white police, not just in baltimore but across the country. the medical examiner ruled the cause of garner s death was compression of his neck in a choke hold. the murder of an unarmed black men. given the things that have happened in the news over the last ten years, how has that impacted your relationship with each other? i think in those situations, ....
And she said, buffy the vampire slar. i was like, yeah, that s one of my favorite shows. so we just ended up talking all night. and i just asked for her number. so it was this mutual love for buffy the vampire slayer that kind of set it all of. kind of. over the next few months, bill and shayna realized they had much more in common than buffy. they loved sports and made each other laugh. it seemed like the perfect match. but given bill s upbringing, it wasn t supposed to happen. i grew up in a small city outside of cleveland. it was not diverse at all, just pretty much all white. and the n-word was thrown around regularly. so it was something you grew up yes. hearing a lot? yes. how did you feel? i just didn t pay attention to it. you know, growing up with that type of mentality, i was never ....
