This year, the state government has decorated the 'Jaystambh' with images of the Constitution of India with the caption "Bhartiya Samvidhanache Amrut Mahotsavi Varshâ (platinum jubilee year of the Indian Constitution).
As a precaution, police have issued notices to a number of people including activists of different groups, local villagers and others, who were booked in different cases regarding the Koregaon Bhima violence, asking them to stay out of the region on the day of the event.
A top police officer said the January 1 programme is just ahead of the elections. Hence, it is learnt that various political parties and activists will mobilise as many people as possible to pay a visit to the Jaystambh
In an order passed on Wednesday, Justice Amit Borkar said the government is permitted to enter upon the 'suit land' from December 22 to January 5, 2024.
The two-member commission, headed by retired high court justice J N Patel, is probing into the causes that led to the violence in Koregaon Bhima on January 1, 2018, that led to the death of one person and left several injured.
