A Newport man accused of sexually assaulting a woman multiple times last month after they had met on a dating website was ordered held on home detention following a court appearance this week. Shaun Berge, 42, pleaded not guilty in Sullivan County Superior Court on Monday to 11 charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault and three charges of second degree assault. The charges are connected to a December incident in which a woman who was dating Berge told police he forced her to perform sexual acts several times over the course of four days, according to an affidavit written by Detective Stephen Lee with the Newport Police Department. ....

A 42-year-old Newport man is being held without bail after being charged with sexually assaulting a woman he had recently met on an internet dating site, according to Newport police. Shaun Berge was arrested early Sunday morning after the woman told police on Saturday that she “had been repeatedly sexually assaulted” by him, Newport police said in a news release on Wednesday. Berge was ordered “preliminarily detained” without bail at an arraignment on Monday in Sullivan Superior Court, the release said, and was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday on 14 felony counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault and three felony counts of second-degree assault. ....
