The opposition party leader had approached the court against the alleged harassment and raids conducted by police at his residence. Through senior lawyer Khalid Ranjha, Butt had contended that the police had been causing undue harassment to him purely on political grounds. He said police officials had violated the sanctity of his residence and outhouse by conducting raids.

Mr Shaukat filed an application with the DIG Operations levelling allegations of manhandling him and harassing his family members by the police. He alleged that over 200 police personnel made their forced entry into his residence at Bhaseen village near Batapur. The heavily equipped policemen broke the main door and resorted to massive firing, terrifying him, his family members and the people living in the surroundings.
