Issues that require systemic change? well, home ownership is one. why are the denial rates systematically lower, the mortgage denial rates higher, than for white americans, even if you look at similar incomes. why, when you look at an african american and white person, who may graduate from the very same college, in the very same year, with the very same grade point average, do you find 20 years later a wealth gap, and in many instances, an income gap. this is the frustration of progress, the frustration of trying to get ahead. there are always going to be people we can point to who shatter glass ceilings, overcome the great difficulties but we re talking about here, what we re talking about here is broader issues and that is the overall community. so this is a call to action, to continue to do the work that is necessary in the face of a
