Exonerated Central Park Five member Yusef Salaam officially won a seat on the New York City Council Tuesday, decades after he was falsely accused of rape at the age of 15.
As one of the Central Park Five, he served seven years in prison for a horrific crime he didn’t commit. Now he wants to serve the city that condemned him.
Voting for the Democratic primary was officially capped on Tuesday, June 22, leaving two prominent Black candidates advancing to the November election for City Council in Harlem’s District 9 and Brooklyn’s District 42.
