May 14, 2021 Lincoln Trail College honored faculty and staff members for their service at the 42nd Annual Service Recognition Night. Retiring English Professor Dr. Ann Wolven was the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award. It is awarded to faculty members who have demonstrated sustained excellence and have adopted innovative or highly effective practices to aid student learning. Wolven received multiple nominations for the award. Her letters of nomination noted her passion and skills as a teacher and reference the effect she has had on students. One of her nomination letters came from a student. “When I met Dr. Wolven, I did not feel like I was a ‘good student’. I struggled with deadlines, organization, and motivation. The workload was intimidating, and I felt like I was in over my head…she offered me help, she answered my questions, as she gave me every reason to trust both her and myself.” ....
Harry Hugh Adams, 1925 - 2021 Harry Hugh Adams Harry Hugh Adams died April 6, 2021 at 95 years of age surrounded by loved ones. He was born August 6, 1925 to Ray “Roy” J. and Gladys Goldie (McCarty) Adams. His sister and brothers were Gussie “Louise” Adams Estabrook, Edwin Birdene “Bud” Adams, Willard Eugene “Gene” Adams, Earl Ray “Tex” Adams, John Glenn Adams, Frederick “Merle” Adams, Billie LaDon “Don” Adams. All have preceded him in death. A veteran of World War II, Harry joined the army September 1943 shortly after his 18th birthday and was assigned as a gunner in Patton’s 80th infantry division. After being wounded by artillery shrapnel during the Battle of the Bulge, he recovered and returned to the front line. This second assignment ended when his feet froze after a night crossing of the Or River on Christmas Eve 1944. He spent the remainder of the war recovering in a hospital in Brita ....
