India, Bangladesh Boost Counter-Terror Cooperation As 10-Day Military Drills Conclude

India and Bangladesh strengthened their counterterrorism cooperation through a 10-day multinational military exercise, ‘Shantir Ogroshena’ (Front Runner of the Peace).
The military drills, which concluded on Monday, marked the golden jubilee of the Bangladesh liberation war fought with India’s military assistance.
Held at Bangabandhu Senanibas (BBS) in Bangladesh, the exercise saw the participation of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. The US, the UK, Russia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Singapore were observers of the proceedings.
The Indian Army said the military exercises were aimed at strengthening defense ties and enhancing interoperability among the neighboring countries to ensure effective peacekeeping operations. ....

Force Commander of UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) Lieutenant General Sidki Daniel Traore and Force Commander of United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Lieutenant General Shailesh Sadashiv Tinaikar have called on Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed at the Army Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment on Tuesday.
In addition to the exchange of greetings, the Force Commanders discussed the challenges posed by the ongoing peacekeeping operations and the various issues that need to be addressed. 
During the discussion, General Aziz Ahmed laid special emphasis on the special involvement of women in peacekeeping operations, increase of air support in mission areas and the conduct of peacekeeping operations in the event of global epidemic Covid-19.  ....

DHAKA, April 12, 2021 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today stressed the need for equipping peacekeepers with appropriate training and equipment with facing new crises in the peacekeeping operations at the advent of newer technologies alongside invisible enemies like the Coronavirus.
“At present, peacekeepers in UN peacekeeping missions have to deal with multidimensional and complex situations. The number of deaths of peacekeepers has also been rising at an alarming rate recently. So far, 158 Bangladeshi peacekeepers have died and 237 injured. The time has come to equip peacekeepers with appropriate training and equipment to deal with the new upcoming crises in UN peacekeeping operations. I hope required measures will be taken to this end,” she said. ....
