Several Sentences Handed Out in Wayne County Court Tuesday

There were several sentenced handed out in Wayne County Court on Tuesday. 58 year old Brian F. Fitzhugh of Cisne and 38-year-old Chance Young of Fairfield are currently serving time in the Illinois Department of Corrections on different offenses. Fitzhugh received a 24-month probation term while Young received a 30 month probation term for unlawful possession of meth. Both will still have to pay remaining court costs. 35-year-old Shannon L. Cone of Fairfield was sentenced to 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with 27 days credit for time served. She agreed to a plea deal for the term which dismissed several other cases. She will be responsible for $1951 in court costs. She will be eligible for release as early as July of 2025. 20-year-old Crossville resident Isaac C. Knuckles pled guilty to a disorderly conduct charge.  Fran Carter Memorial Scholarship Fashion Show The Frontier Community College Foundation and Carnaby Square are teaming up again to host the Fran Carter Memorial Scholarship Fashion Show, Sunday November 6th at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. This is the fourth fashion show the two entities have sponsored together and the second with proceeds benefiting the Fran Carter Memorial Scholarship. "Fran played such an important role in the college foundation and was one of Carnaby Square's biggest fans. I couldn't think of a better way to honor my friend's legacy than working with the foundation to raise money in honor of her for scholarships," said Kristi Hornung, owner and operator of Carnaby Square. The location is a new one for the event, as it will be held at the First Christian Church of Fairfield. Fairfield FFA member Jacob Britt was awarded the National FFA Organization's highest honor, the prestigious American FFA Degree, during the 95th National FFA Convention on October 29, 2022, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Less than one percent of the 850,823 FFA members in the country ever earns this distinction. Recipients of the honor are reserved for those students who have earned at least $10,000 and productively invested $7500 through Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs (SAEs), met all requirements of a twenty-page degree application, and completed an interview with a state recommendation committee. Jacob is currently majoring in accounting at University of Southern Indiana and he is the 15th Fairfield FFA member to receive the FFA degree. Due to scheduling conflicts, the TIF meeting originally scheduled for Monday Sept 26 at 5PM at City Hall will be rescheduled for Wednesday, Sept 28,2022 at 5PM at City Hall. Guest speaker Sharon Maguire will give a presentation on hobo quilts at the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library annual meeting on Monday, September 26, a 2 p.m. in the library's meeting room. The gathering is open to the public, and refreshments will be served. Sharon will tell the group about the history of hobo quilts, which feature signs hobos left for each other as they travelled the countryside by foot or by rail from the late nineteenth into the first half of the twentieth century. Among the signs were indicators that told them which towns were safe, which were dangerous, and where they might find food, lodging, and work. Sharon will also bring a sample quilt to the meeting.
