A celebration of Allan Hancock College’s first 100 years culminated with the naming of the centennial class of distinguished alumni, and the revelation that tuition-free fundraising efforts had reached more than halfway toward the goal.
The virtual celebration hosted by Fifth District county Supervisor Steve Lavagnino and Superintendent/President Kevin Walthers, included musical performances, history and more on Saturday. ....

Santa Maria Valley YMCA in need of childcare employees as demand from school districts rises

For kids that means having fun.
But the Santa Maria Valley YMCA is experiencing a shortage of employees for its summer programs.
So believe it or not where the polar opposite of last year which was no kids and we were all in the middle of a pandemic. This summer we have a massive entry-level staffing staffing shortage, said CEO Shannon Seifert of the Santa Maria Valley YMCA.
Seifert said there is a shortage of 55 staff positions that need to be filled in the next couple of months.
Several school districts are also coming to the Y seeking help with childcare. ....
