DB Schenker has secured a 5.2-acre site for the project from Shannon Commercial Properties, a Shannon Group company. The company plans to construct a 52,000 sq. ft. facility on site, built to the highest industry spec which will support their multinational customer base. Photo: © Pat Flynn 2019 The CEO of Shannon Group has reaffirmed the Group’s commitment to restoring air services to Shannon Airport and visitor numbers to its heritage sites as soon as the aviation and tourism sectors reopen. “COVID-19 had a devastating impact on two of our three business operations, but with the right supports, the foundations for recovery exist within Shannon Group, namely our improved core airport infrastructure, vibrant property portfolio, strong tourism offering and vibrant aviation cluster,” said Shannon Group CEO Mary Considine. Reflecting on the performance of the Group and its individual businesses across 2020, Ms Considine said that the COVID-19 pandemic had been catastrophic for global aviation and tourism, and this was reflected in passenger numbers at Shannon Airport which recorded a decrease of 1.37 million people in 2020, a 79% decrease on 2019, with just over 352,000 people using the airport last year.
