JOHN DAY — 1188 owner Shannon Adair has been cleared of any wrongdoing pertaining to her purchase of a 2.8 acre lot in the city of John Day’s Innovation Gateway following a 5-4 vote at the Friday, Jan. 5 Oregon State Ethics Commission meeting.
Adair had been under investigation by the ethics commission for over a year due to a complaint filed by community member Bob Pereria accusing Adair of using her position as a city councilor to enrich herself as well as accusations she’d failed to declare a conflict of interest when the council was discussing the sale of the property to her. Adair purchased the lot for $122,840 with the intention of forming a new venture, 1188 Destinations, that will feature a distillery, restaurant, cabins for overnight lodging and a small outdoor pavilion that could host live music.

JOHN DAY — The Deline Building in downtown John Day, which had been the home of Radio Shack for a number of years, is no more.
The building was gutted on April 17 in a disastrous electrical fire that left a blight in the downtown commercial district and created a public safety concern.
Curt Blackburn, a real estate broker from Burns who acquired the building in August, demolished the structure over the weekend. A tall pile of rubble could be seen sitting near bulldozers on the parcel in the 100 block of East Main Street on Monday, Oct. 16. Blackburn said he hopes to remove the rubble and fill in the shallow hole where the building once stood in the coming days. ....
