Run-rate is an underrated idea in Test cricket, but Indian teams of the past often suffered in Australia because they couldn’t stem the flow of runs by the hosts.
Since 2018-19, though, when Virat Kohli’s boys won the series 2-1, there has been a remarkable decrease in Aussie run-rates. In 11 innings (8 in 2018-19 and 3 on the current tour), the Australians have touched a run-rate of 3.0 only once, in the first innings of Perth where they won the Test.
On all other occasions it was well below 3 and in the ongoing series, their run-rates have been 2.67, 2 and 2.65. The Aussies have never been able to dominate the Indian bowling attack at any stage. ....
