Michael “Poncho” Alan Velin, 81, of Superior, passed away peacefully, Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation with family by his side. He was born on April 11, 1942, to Marcus and Elsie (Ukkola) Velin. He attended Nelson Dewey and Franklin Schools and graduated from East High School in 1960 where he participated in football and golf. After graduation he married Linda Johnson, and they raised four children in their East End Home.
Peter, age 77, died on December 21, 2023, in his home on Amnicon Lake. Born in Superior, WI, he grew up on Amnicon Lake and shortly after graduating high school in Ohio, he sailed the Great Lakes with the Merchant Marines starting in 1966. He did this part-time while he pursued his mechanical engineering degree from Tri-State University in Angola, IN (now Trine University). In 1976 he received his Merchant Marines and continued to sail into the early 1980’s. After he left the Merchant Marines, he settled in Ft. Wayne, IN, where he lived and worked until the early 2000’s as an engineer and contractor. He returned to Amnicon Lake and retired to his childhood home. He enjoyed socializing with his friends on the lake, playing and watching golf, and tackling home improvement projects. Those that knew him well know that he was a man that loved to cook and entertain, and he was never one to miss a party.
