March 31 is commemorated in Azerbaijan as the Day of Genocide, in which tens of thousands of civilians lost their lives in Baku, as well as many other regions, including Shamakhi, Guba, Lenkaran, Salyan, Iravan, Zangezur, Garabagh and Nakhchivan in 1918. According to the Azerbaijani version of the events, in late March 1918, with the support of Bolshevik leaders of the Baku Council, the armed formations of the Armenian nationalist “Dashnaktsutyun” Party, led by Stepan Shaumyan, carried out mass killings and pogroms of Azerbaijanis. ....
16 Dec 2020 in 10:30 Azerbaijan continues to provide apartments, private houses and cars to martyrs’ families and disabled war veterans. On December 15, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection provided 42 private houses to citizens of this category in 13 regions of the country- Saatly, Salyan, Ismayilli, Khachmaz, Barda, Aghjabadi, Zagatala, Yevlakh, Shamkir, Goygol, Agsu and Shamakhy regions. One of the social protection programmes, that is the programme to provide houses, private apartments and cars for martyrs’ families and disabled war veterans expands every year. Under the presidential instructions, martyrs’ families and disabled war veterans will be provided with a record number (1,500) of apartments and individual houses in 2020. ....
