The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment today observed “International Women’s Day”’ in the Conference Room of the Department at Antyoday Bhawan, New Delhi. The programme was chaired by Mrs. Shakuntala D. Gamlin Secretary, DEPwD and attended by the women employees of the Department. Women employees of National Institutes (NIs) of the Department participated in the programme virtually. Smt. Gamlin congratulated the women for their achievement in different fields. She affirmed the Government’s commitment to their empowerment and inclusion in the society. She emphasized on empowering Divyang Women.
Speaking especially about women with disabilities, she said that the Constitution of India guarantees equality of men and women. App on 'accessibility' to address concerns of disabled on Covid-19 too | India News

NEW DELHI: Bringing focus on the critical need for accessibility, a mobile based application Sugamya Bharat App that became available to the public from Tuesday will not only enable persons with disabilities to complain about inaccessible spaces and services but also seek information and raise concerns related to Covid-19.
The app, incidentally, comes at a time when the second phase of vaccination has started for those above 60 years and for those in the priority group of 45 and above with specific co-morbidities which includes certain categories of disabilities.
The list of specified comorbidities for determination of eligibility of citizens in age group 45 to 59 years includes persons with intellectual disabilities, those having high support needs, muscular dystrophy, acid attack with involvement of respiratory system and multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness. Govt. launches app for accessibility feedback

The Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry on Tuesday launched an application for the public to submit complaints and feedback about accessibility of public and private buildings across the country.
The Sugamya Bharat app, developed by the Ministry’s Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), would help in crowd-sourcing information to enhance accessibility, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot said while launching it at a virtual event. The Android version of the app was launched on Tuesday and the iOS version would be available by March 15, the Ministry said in a statement.
The app will allow users to submit complaints of inaccessibility as well as give examples and best practices worth emulating, it said. The app itself has accessibility features like adjustable font size, colour contrast options, text-to-speech and integrated screen reader in Hindi and English, the Ministry said. Th ....
