Grant will help Shaker Museum project
CHATHAM – Shaker Museum was awarded a two-year, $230,000 grant from the Henry Luce Foundation for the installation of the Shaker Belief, Shaker Life, Shaker Community collection, to be presented at the launch of the museum’s upcoming facility in downtown Chatham.
Curated by Maggie Taft, the display will offer a kaleidoscopic view of American Shakerism from the religion’s founding in the late 18th century to its flourishing in the 19th century and decline in the 20th. Using selections from Shaker Museum’s collection, the exhibition will explore how Shakerism’s radical foundational values of equality, inclusion, and accessibility were pursued and experienced by members of Shaker communities, according to the museum. ....

Basketball Swish-Out Contest goes virtual for charity
The 27th annual C-U Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge – presented by Town & Country FCU – is going virtual this year, beginning April 12 and ending May 8.
The format of this year’s event will be a weekly free throw competition where three participants form a team and each participants take 50 free throws. The free throws can be taken from anywhere that has a regulation free throw line or a close facsimile, and do not have to be taken at the same time. The collective total from the team is reported by 5 p.m. Sunday each week. The 25 percent of teams in each division, with the lowest total, will be eliminated while the remainder will move on to the next week. There will be weekly winners of gift cards, and the top three teams in each division at the end of the 4-week competition will win prizes. Every participant receives a T-shirt just for registering. ....

NEW GLOUCESTER Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village on Monday, April 12, will present a live discussion and audience Q&A with Lois Lowry and Brother Arnold Hadd, who will discuss “Like the Willow Tree” – Lowry’s historical fiction book set at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village.
The live event will take place at 6 p.m. via Zoom, and is open for pre-registration at maineshakers.com. The talk is free and open to all age groups, and will be live-streamed on Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village’s Facebook page. Optional donations will be accepted. ....

Hart Cluett Museum names Starlyn D'Angelo new executive director | News


TROY, N.Y. — The Hart Cluett Museum in downtown Troy recently announced its new Executive Director Starlyn D’Angelo.
“After thoughtful consideration by the Museum’s search committee, the Board of Directors unanimously approved Starlyn’s appointment as executive director,” Mark D. Shipley, Board president, stated.
“Star’s deep knowledge and experience in the museum field will secure our mission to enrich the present and advocate for the future by bringing the region’s past to life,” Shipley explained.

D’Angelo, a Colorado native, relocated to New York to attend the Cooperstown Graduate Program where she obtained a Master s Degree in Museum Studies. ....
