Tributes paid to Barrow doctor William Mitchell who uncovered the legionnaires outbreak

HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to the hero doctor who was the first to uncover the Legionnaires disease outbreak in Barrow.
Long-serving rheumatoid specialist Dr William Smith Mitchell dedicated more than 30 years to Furness General Hospital before he sadly died of pulmonary fibrosis.
Dr Mitchell was a beloved husband to Maureen, treasured dad of Val, Caroline, William and David and cherished grandad of Priya, Amelia, Nevaeh, Cerys and William.
Dr Mitchell qualified from Glasgow University in 1977 before becoming a consultant at Furness General Hospital in 1990.
He went on to become a training programme director for rheumatology in Morecambe Bay and became an associate dean at Manchester University in the medical department. ....

AN under-fire consultant has left the University of Morecambe Bay Hospitals Trust, it has been confirmed.
Ashutosh Jain was criticised for errors that played a role in the deaths of patients being treated by the trust which runs Furness General and Westmorland General hospitals.
He is among three urologists who have come under fire due to failures in patient care, with an external inquiry looking into concerns that date back to 2001.
Coroners ruled clinical errors made by Mr Jain and former colleagues Kavinder Madhra, and Muhammad Naseem contributed to the deaths of two patients.
UHMBT has now confirmed that Mr Jain, who has been a doctor for more than two decades, has left the trust. ....

Top Morecambe Bay doctor temporarily banned from consulting woman and children amid investigation

A TOP doctor has been prohibited from seeing patients under the age of 18 amid an investigation by the UK s medical regulator.
Dr Paul Grout, the deputy medical director for the trust that runs Furness General Hospital, is being investigated by the General Medical Council for allegations yet to be made public.
The doctor, previously listed as an A&E consultant at FGH, has been banned from carrying out consultations with patients under 18 unless in life-threatening situations after restrictions on his practice were imposed.
Among other restrictions, Dr Grout is also banned from carrying out any intimate examinations of female patients over 18 without a chaperone, ....
