A FORMER Monk Bretton councillor who also worked at the town’s fire station died last month.
Mick Harper, 73, was born in Barnsley in 1947 and since then he spent the majority of his life looking out for those in the town - working in a range of roles from politics to a union president.
Mick’s son, Dale Saxton, said: “My father first attended Shafton School, then Hemsworth Grammar.
“He worked at both Barnsley and Royston fire stations before becoming involved in the union side of the fire service - he eventually became president of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU). ....
