ISLAMABAD: Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood on Monday paid a visit to a Cambridge examination centre where he saw a lot of students crowded into one space.
The minister took to Twitter to state that he spoke to the Head of the British Council and Cambridge Pakistan, asking them to ensure exam centres were not jampacked. “Visited an exam centre today with Head of British Council and Cambridge Pakistan. SOPs were being strictly observed including social distancing etc. But, the number of people in one room was large. Have asked them to drastically reduce it,” he tweeted. ....

Minister of Education Shafqat Mehmood on Tuesday announced that in view of a worsening third coronavirus wave all exams have been put off till June 15.
Addressing a media briefing alongside the prime minister s aide on health Dr Faisal Sultan following a meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), he said: We had decided during the last NCOC meeting on April 18 that exams will proceed as scheduled. However, after that, to date, the infection rate increased by a lot. ....

Pakistani star Meesha Shafi demanded for the cancellation of the ongoing Cambridge exams amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Taking to Twitter, the singer shared a student’s plea to cancel exams.
A photo of a heavily crowded waiting area following the end of exams clearly shows that the situation went against the promise of following Covid standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood on Sunday said an important meeting about the closure of schools will be held on Tuesday.
Given the deteriorating situation of the virus, the NCOC meeting will also bring the exam situation under discussion.
Education and Health Ministers will meet at the NCOC Tuesday to decide whether to open or further close educational institutions. The exam situation will also be discussed. Whatever is decided will be a collective decision of the country’s health and education authorities and NCOC, the minister said on Twitter. ....
