Melfort raises property taxes by average of 1.8 per cent

A total of $150,000 of the 2020 surplus is being utilized to balance the 2021 budget, with $73,525 from the mill rate stabilization reserve being prepared to be drawn if necessary.
“I think it went really well,” said Glenn George, Melfort’s mayor. “We have a rainy day fund, we used it, we tried to keep the taxes as absolutely low as we could and this is the best we could do.”
Budgeted water line work includes Broadway South, McKendry Avenue East, looping of Frost Drive, Charles Street, as well as Shadd Drive into sections.

Crews conducted traffic control until medical services transported the patient.
Shaun Stewart, Melfort’s fire chief said while the situation is still under investigation by the RCMP, there was ice all over the road.
“I never made it to the scene. I know the roads were lousy,” Stewart said. “I got part way there, and when there was RCMP, EMS were there and no entrapment, myself, I turned around and went back home. The guys that were there dealt with it.”
His advice is when there is ice on the roads, drive slowly and give yourself extra time.
“Everybody’s got to drive to the road conditions and some people are more comfortable than others. I always give myself anywhere from 20 minutes to a half-an-hour extra time to get where I need to go.” ....
