KP govt reverts retirement age to 60 years - Pakistan

PESHAWAR: Amid ever-growing pension liabilities, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Tuesday reversed its decision of increasing the retirement age by three years for government employees.
The decision to revert the amendment which has been pending in court since its enactment in July 2019 and has created a number of legal and administrative issues for the provincial government was made in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan.
In a video briefing, KP Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra said the retirement age would be reverted to 60 from 63 years through an amendment to the civil servants’ law. ....

Govt's job to make law, court's task to enforce it: CJ

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday set aside the verdict of Peshawar High Court (PHC) declaring unconstitutional the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Civil Servant Amendment Act, 2019 that increased the retirement age of the government servants from 60 to 63 years.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, heard the petition filed by the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) challenging the PHC verdict. The court after hearing to the parties set aside the PHC verdict and remanded back to high court for deciding the matter afresh and on merit.
Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, however, observed that the law cannot be ruled wrong on the reservations of some civil servants. The chief justice noted that it is the government s job to make the law and the court s job to enforce them. The CJP remarked that the law is made as per the Constitution and not Rules of Business. ....
