The driver of the car has been flown by air ambulance to Kings College Hospital, London, in a life-threatening condition. The road is currently closed in both directions, and is expected to be so for some time. Motorists are asked to avoid the area while emergency services manage the scene. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting Operation Smallfield. An AA report from the area stated that traffic is coping well despite the continuing road closure.
